Raffault 2015 Chinon "La Singulière"
100% Cabernet Franc. "La Singulière" comes from a single parcel in "Les Picasses" named "Vaux," with 40-year-old vines that are certified organic and on limestone-rich clay soils. "La Singulière" is the only Raffault wine to be aged in smaller oak vessels, specifically 500-liter tonneaux on the newer side (from 1-5 years of previous use) vs. the quite old and large 30-hectoliter foudres for Picasses. After two years in wood, the wine is bottled without fining or filtering. 2015 is the current vintage. "The 2015 la Singulière delivers a superb bouquet of cassis, dark berries, tree bark, cigar ash, a complex base of soil tones and a deft framing of smoky oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a superb core of fruit, excellent soil signature, fine-grained tannins and a long, poised and beautifully balanced finish. Fine, fine juice in the making." John Gilman View from the Cellar. We would recommend holding for 5 years, then enjoy indefinitely...
