Molino, Renato 2022 Spluva Vino Rosso (Arrives 7/1)
'Spluva' means 'spark' in the local dialect and is also the name of the family farm. The ‘spark’ came from the tractor Renato’s grandfather used around the farm. His neighbors would use the sparks to light their engines! 100% Nebbiolo from vines closest to the farmhouse cellar. Renato could technically use these grapes to make Barolo, but he prefers to release this a bit younger and fresher, because his Barolo spend more than the required time in botti and bottle. It still receives extended aging in large botti, upwards of 18 months!
Very complex on the nose with mint & potpourri jumping out first. Then layers of moreno cherry, truffle, and cocoa powder come out, with a medium body and fine grain, approachable tannins. An incredible value considering this wine is basically Barolo and very fun to drink!
