Levet 2023 Cote-Rotie Journaries (Arrives 9/29)

100% Syrah, 60% from west part of La Landonne (1940s, before 1953, gets early sun), 40% Côte Brune (late 1980s, 1990), Côte Blonde (1978-80), Côte Rozier, 30-50% destemmed, 3 week vinification in 50 hl concrete vats, cap is immersed, twice daily pumping overs, held at 29°C, aged either used 600-litre oak casks or large 30 hl barrels 24-26 months. "quite a full red; the bouquet has an insistent air of crushed black berries, a note of licorice, a musky floral hover. The palate moves along kindly, smoothly, bears black stone fruits with lissom tannins, shows late spice, is nicely refined, well tuned throughout. This is calm and appealing, and there’s a late upping of the ante, an increase in depth nicely presented. It’s good, genuine Côte-Rôtie with very correct length. From spring 2027, deserves a large glass." Drink until 2047
