Lafouge, Jean et Gilles 2023 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses
"Les Duresses," according to Jasper Morris, is the best placed vineyard in Auxey-Duresses, on a steep south-east facing slope that continues into Monthelie. This wine is always well-structured, a bit less forward than Lafouge's La Chapelle and it ages beautifully. "The 2023 offers up an aromatic constellation of cassis, black cherries, sweet dark berries, coffee bean, a great base of soil, woodsmoke, pigeon and a deft framing of cedary oak. I should note that this did develop some red fruity tones as well with a bit of time in the glass. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely structured out of the blocks, with a great core of fruit, fine soil undertow, ripe tannins and a long, well balanced and complex finish." - (View from the Cellar #115) Enjoyable now, but best tor wait 5 years and enjoy until 2045.
