Fonplegade 2020 Saint-Emilion (Arrives 7/2)

Chateau Fonplegade's vines are situated southwest of the town of Saint-Emilion, just below Ch. Magdelaine on a steep slope of limestone with clay and sandy soils that descends from the plateau. The vines are partly in a natural amphitheater, facing south with great sun exposure and protection from north winds. The estate was purchased from the Moueix family in 2004 by Denise and Stephen Adams and is now certified organic and biodynamic. The blend is roughly 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and aging is 50% in new French oak barrels, 30% in one year-old barrels and 10% in concrete and 10% in amphorae.  It's highly enjoyable now and will continue to evolve nicely over the next 5-20 years. The 2020 is a beautiful Fonplegade - "it conveys a purity that I associate with the Cote-D'Or, quite showy with plush red fruit, cherries and cranberry. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, rather creamy on the entry with black fruits laced with licorice and graphite." Neal Martin, Vinous. Enjoy  over the next 20 years...
