Chevalerie 2019 Bourgueil "Cuvée Chevalerie"

We're big fans of the Caslot family at Domane de la Chevalerie, who make soulful Bourgueils from organic/biodynamic vineyards on their superb terroirs.  The Chevalerie vineyard is above the winery on mid-slope Turonian limestone with shallow clay and alluvial sand and gravel topsoils, rich in silex; the vines average about 70 years of age. 2019 is a superb vintage for the Cuvée Chevalerie which shows a lovely deep black/purlple color with bright rim.  The aromas are fresh and deep with ripe black raspberry, blackberry and cassis with stone, black plum and citrus peel. The palate is elegant and silky with a perfect balance between fruit, tannin and acidity, beautifully textured with a melange of cool red and black fruits. The finish is pure and clean with a bitter edge to the black fruits that linger on the palate. Delicious and quite elegant now but the wine will be really superb when more mature, give it 3 to 5 years then enjoy until 2040 and beyond. Highly recommended. David Lillie
