Chantal Lescure 2022 Cote de Beaune "La Grande Chatelain"
About a kilometer or two northwest of the Beaune 1er Crus, La Grande Châtelaine is a superb parcel on a cooler south-facing slope with thin soils of clay over limestone. The wine undergoes a long, slow fermentation in used barriques and is aged sur-lie without battonage for 15 months. Showing a pale gold in the glass, the nose initially starts with sharp minerality and modest but bright citrus character. As it opens and warms up in the glass, the wine picks up in weight, bringing crisp apple and yuzu. Initially quiet; bright acidity, citrus, and minerality come to dominate the palate after a few minutes with an underpinning of judicious oak notes. Long and lean like a marathoner, the finish goes on for miles. An exquisite seafood wine.
