Testut Chablis
Testut Chablis
I feel lucky to have been introduced to Cyril Testut’s wines many years ago and have been enjoying them from Chablis to Grand Cru ever since (all of which we have on offer today).
Cyril Testut arrived in Chablis in 1990 and didn’t initially plan a career in winemaking. However, he ended up taking over the family estate in 1998 and at first was selling grapes and just making a small amount of wine for his family. Over time he slowly stopped selling off grapes and making more and more wines. Part of the key to the success of Testut are their old vines from Village Chablis through his Grand Cru. The Domaine has an average of 40 year old vines with that number going up to 50 years old on average for just the Premier and Grand Crus. These deep root systems draw incredibly rich minerality that translates directly to the wines. Across the board these wines have intense energy, and verve with a constant underlying minerality. And on top of that they are at a much more approachable price than many comparable Chablis.
Just this past weekend I opened a bottle of 2023 Testut Chablis Cote de Brechain alongside dinner and the intensity and depth of flavor was just stunning, and from an entry level wine none the less! This intensity just increases as you move through the higher end wines.
Over the years as the “secret” of these stunning wines has spread and it has become a little bit more challenging to find them on the shelves, but today I am thrilled to offer their Cote de Brechain, Vaillons, Montee de Tonnerre, Forets, and Grand Cru Grenouille. If this isn’t already, it is about to become a staple in your Chablis rotation.
