The Gilles 2023 Cornas is mainly 1976 Syrah from 0.7 ha on granite with loess, sandstone on Les Grands Murs, 1978 Syrah from 1.2 ha on firm granite soils on Les Terrasses, 1981 Syrah from 0.5 ha on granite with clay soils on La Combe, all on Chaillot, crop crushed, whole bunch fermentation, aged in 4 to 14 year-old oak, 400L and 600L. "level red robe; the nose has a cordite-smoked top, blackberry-raspberry fruit present, is clear, shows bacon fat, a note of pine. Then palate bears a good mix of aromatic red fruits, detail, with cool tannins and ferrous-toned content, offers a good thread of red juice into the close, the fruit high quality, handsome, is tasty and pure, the balance good. It’s a top 2023 Cornas. “The blend has good weight, a small alert fruited side; analytically 2023 isn’t high acidity, but it should live, it has tannic structure,” G Gilles (Drink Rhone)
