Florez 2023 Edelzwicker

This is maybe the first of James' wines we really fell in love with. It's a blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, with the Pinot Gris and Gewürz coming from McFadden Vineyard in Potter Valley, and Riesling from the old vines at Wirz Ranch. The Pinot Gris and Gewürtztraminer were macerated on the skins for about six hours, settled overnight and racked to a stainless tank for native fermentation before being transferred to neutral French barrels. The Riesling was whole cluster direct pressed, settled overnight and racked into stainless steel tank for primary fermentation, then sent to neutral French oak barrels to age on fine lees. After both wines had aged for approximately 9 months they were racked and combined in preparation for bottling. It shows beautiful peachy fruit, delicate but textured with some savory notes coming through. For as much complexity as there is, it's still a remarkably light and fresh wine that is cheerful and easy to drink.
