Haarmeyer 2022 Wirz Riesling
The Wirz Vineyard was planted in 1963 and lies just east of the San Andreas Fault at about 1000 feet elevation. It consists of limestone soils with some decomposed granite, and gets some maritime breezes to mitigate the warm days. The wine is a deep gold in the glass with a flinty minerality and lovely texture. It's dry and structured with good acidity and an herbal savory side that adds layers of depth. One of the more interesting California Rieslings you'll find, this can pair well with anything from herb roasted chicken to classic Chinese or even red meats. While drinking beautifully now, I suspect this will age nicely another ten years.
