'Coma Vella' is majority Grenache (70%) with 20% Carignan and 10% Syrah from vines that are 40 years-old on average, planted between 1965 and 1998. The vineyard here is a mix of red clay and red slate in a warmer part of the valley, giving it roundness, ripeness and soft tannins.

From the Mas d'en Gil website: This wine and its name are taken from the Coma Vella vineyard plot, the oldest one in the Vall de la Coma. Planted with Garnatxa Peluda (Downy Grenache) and Garnatxa del País (Grenache) together, this valley faces east and west towards the Mediterranean Sea. The place is blessed by the refreshing sea breeze, known as the Garbinada. 2008 was a rainy vintage in Priorat and indeed my first vintage with Mas d’en Gil Team. First changes were partly implemented like the use of big 1500 and 3000L casks for fermentation and aging in French foudres.
