Vignerons Les Matheny 2020 Arbois Trousseau

Emeric Foleat established Les Matheny in 2007 in an old farmhouse converted into a wine cellar, cultivating a little over 3 hectares mainly in the Arbois appellation. He worked for Puffeney for eight years and has taken this experience with him to craft exciting and enigmatic wines that feel profoundly Jura yet share a distinct character. This is a powerful and rugged style of Trousseau with deep concentration and firm structure, while still showing great energy and juicy acid to match its unapologetic grip. There's some peppery spice and darker fruit along with an earthy undertone and mineral cut. While a bold style for Trousseau, it's not a heavy wine and shows great aging potential. It is expressive and buoyant while simultaneously brooding and contemplative - a truly unique wine that is full of charm. Drink now with some air or hold another 5-10 years, maybe more!
