Jean-Marc Pillot has made quite a name for himself with an impressive range of holdings from Chassagne, Puligny, Santenay, and beyond! For the past few years, his son Antonin has taken the reins and represents the 5th generation of vignerons in the family. With this passing of the torch came just a few changes, such as the conversion to organic viticulture in 2021, with certification coming with the 2024 vintage. Across the whole domaine, most of the vines are old, averaging over 50 years. In the cellar Antonin is implementing an extended aging period, with wines spending 18 months in barrel as opposed to 12 months in past vintages, and remaining on their fine lees the entire time with no racking. The longer aging has provided additional harmony and complexity with precision all while being terroir-driven. With each vintage the winemaking is always thoughtful and tailored to get the best out of each vintage. Jean-Marc is still around and assisting his son, and has clearly passed on a knack for winemaking.

I have personally always had a soft spot for the wines of Jean-Marc Pillot. Although they are often known for their white wines first, Jean-Marc and Antonin craft some exquisite Red Burgundies. It's difficult to believe that a handful of years ago I was pouring his Chassagne Rouge Premier Crus by the glass during my time in restaurants. Today the story is a bit different, as year after year they continue to improve, and as Antonin's star rises it becomes harder to get our hands on these wines, but we were very excited to get a hefty enough allocation to offer the wines out today. Quantities vary greatly depending on the cuvée so snag some while you can!
