Even though the Fond Du Lac Warehouse has 22 million cubic feet of 55-degree storage space, our importer friend kindly suggested that we move these 20-odd cases into our basement, which is rather full, so here we go, at 20% off our regular price!
Domaine Stéphane Magnien, Morey-Saint-Denis
The wines of Stéphane Magnien are finally becoming known to American Burgundy lovers, with excellent reviews and growing recognition of their superb quality and value. Here's our 2012 introduction to the domain, beginning with the 2010 vintage: "The young and very capable Stéphane Magnien is the fourth generation in his family at this four hectare estate in Morey Saint-Denis. The domain has never used herbicides, doing a deep plowing to aerate the soil each winter (they changed from horse to tractor in the 1980s) and uses only organic composts. There is a high percentage of old vines, including a great deal of "Pinot Tordu," a small-berried, aromatic old clone of Pinot. Minimal new oak is used, about 15% for the premier and grand cru wines, and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration. It's quite exciting to find a new, and reasonably priced Burgundy producer making wines in a style we love and we hope you will give them a try!" (A few days ago we opened a bottle of the 2010 village Morey-Saint-Denis that was in our first offer, and it was quite beautiful, still youthful, bright, subtle, complex and pure, and better after a few days open!)
Domaine Claudie Jobard
Back in 2010 we began importing the wines of Domaine Gabriel Billard in Pommard, owned by oenologist Laurence Jobard and her sister Mireille. The wines included an outstanding Bourgogne Rouge from old vines in and around Pommard, the Cuvée Milliane Vieilles Vignes, which became our most popular Bourgogne Rouge. The old vines were passed on to Claudie Jobard, Laurence's daughter, a few years ago along with superb parcels in Rully, Montagny, Beaune, Pommard and Pernand-Vergelesses, now certified organic. Claudie is a great winemaker - her tiny production is mostly sold locally so we're very happy to get a small allocation each year, including in this sale offer, the extraordinary Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Sous Fretille" and the wonderful Pommard "Vieilles Vignes." The Rully and Montagny from Claudie are particularly vibrant and delicious, elegant, crystalline and superb values as well.
The Lafouge Auxey-Duresses "Les Hautés" is from a north-facing parcel fairly high on the slope next to Meursault "Les Vireuils." Enjoy the 2022 now or cellar for ten to fifteen years...
Domaine Bart has sadly changed importers, but at least we still have some of their delicious 2023 Marsannay Rosé left in stock - serve this beautiful wine over the next few years with salads, quiche lorraine, grilled chicken or tuna...
