Pierre André 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
The 2023 Pierre André Blanc is an extraordinary Châteauneuf-du-Pape from an extraordinary estate - organic since 1980 (one of the first in the AOC) and Biodynamic since 1992. The blend is now approximately 50-60% Bourboulenc and 40-50% old-vine Clairette (planted in the 1920s) grown on sandy soils in the lieu-dits of "Saint-Georges," "Etang" and "les Bédines," giving a wine that accentuates the beautiful minerality brought by the terroir and the superb farming. The wine is most similar to that of Eric Texier in it's ability to age beautifully, using only the very traditional CDP varieties of Clairette and Bourboulenc. "The 2023 shows a yellow robe; the bouquet is gradually emerging, has a steady depth, potential, a sense of nut-hazelnut, glazed fruits. The palate possesses rather sturdy filling, is packed together, a good, traditional Châteauneuf blanc, persists like a red wine, has that structure, is very much on for sauced dishes, Vieille France cuisine, quenelles de brochet [pike], for instance. It has firm length, will handle strong flavours extremely well. Decanting essential. 14°" - drinkrhone. "It’s quite fresh, has joli matter; I like the balance between freshness and matter, and its bitters [amers] are appealing" said Jacqueline. Best to wait a few years then drink until at least 2040, a beautiful wine!
