Finca Suarez 2022 Semillon Paraje Altamira

Leopoldo Suarez first planted Semillon in the early part of the 20th Century, stating that it was "the best variety for white table wines in Mendoza." When we first tasted this Semillon, from vines planted by Leopoldo's grandson, Juanfa, we were thoroughly impressed. The nose is subtle but reveals richness and stone fruits, the palate has the type of density and weight we associate with fine white Burgundies, without any fatness. This is a totally dry wine, fuller-bodied for a white, but balanced by its natural acidity. Felicidades, Juanfa! From rocky, alluvial soils rich with calcium carbonate. Aging is in neutral oak for 10 months.  -EL
