Beck-Hartweg 2021 Alsace Rittersberg
Rittersberg comes from granitic, sandy and stony soil, a blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois and Riesling, with a tiny amount of Gewurztraminer. Grapes are harvested together and put in the pneumatic press without crushing, pressed gently and slowly to preserve the purity of the aromas. It is fermented with native yeasts and two thirds of the grapes spend 10-12 months in old oak casks, while the other third is crushed with the feet and macerated in Spanish tinajas amphoras. After 6 or 7 months skin contact the content of the amphoras is pressed and blended with the rest. After a few months maturation the wine is estate bottled without filtration nor sulfites. Despite the extended maceration, this is a more delicate orange wine with zesty aromas but an elegant minerality and balance. Subtle structure and nice depth make it an ideal pairing option with anything from fresh seafood to tapas or even fried foods.
