2021 Trediberri and Giulia Negri, and other favorite Piedmont wines!
New arrivals from Trediberri. Giulia Negri, Lalu and more!
April may be coming to a close, but the Nebbiolo downpour is just getting started! Today we are highlighting new arrivals from Piedmont. We received a small drop of producers; some are rising stars while others fly under the radar making authentic expressions of Barolo and Barbaresco.
To start off the festivities we have the beautiful 2021 Barolos from Giulia Negri and Trediberri, the aforementioned rising stars, both on top of their game. Quality is high across all the communes in 2021, but personally I believe these cooler vintage favors producers who craft intoxicatedly perfumed wines like those which La Morra epitomizes. We've got Trediberri's flagship Berri Barolo with loads of sexy woodsy fruit and heady bouquet. Right next-door Giulia Negri's Tartufaia and Serradenari are both beautiful examples of Nebbiolo at higher altitudes. My recommendation would be Trediberri for the fans of more sensual Nebbiolo and for those who like classic fine grained tannins go for Giulia Negri.
Another producer that is well on their way to becoming a rising star is Lalú, a dynamic duo made up of friends Lara Rocchetti & Luisa Sala, who actually trained at Trediberri! They worked together on a thesis on designing a carbon neutral winery at the University of Pollenzo. After university they both gained experience working at wineries and in 2015 they were able to make their first vineyard purchase. In the cellar what really sets their wines apart is their employment of whole berry and whole-cluster during the vinification as well as the usage of concrete for aging vessels. These techniques add incredible fruit vibrancy which make these wines a joy to drink in their youth. Today we have the Barbera d'Alba and Langhe Nebbiolo from the 2023 vintage! Cheers!
