Gilles, Guillaume 2022 Cornas
The Gilles 2022 Cornas is mainly 1976 Syrah from 0.7 ha on granite with loess, sandstone on Les Grands Murs, 1978 Syrah from 1.2 ha on firm granite soils on Les Terrasses, 1981 Syrah from 0.5 ha on granite with clay soils on La Combe, all on Chaillot, crop crushed, whole bunch fermentation, aged in 4 to 14 year-old oak, 400L and 600L. "dark red robe; the bouquet is a slow burn affair, has a concealed black stone fruit air, plum, black tobacco elements. The palate bears a compact filling of dark berry content, with ripe, well achieved tannins that add layering, extends surely. It’s very under wraps, a good ensemble, though, with low-key iron on the inside, a sense of spine, has the close-knit nature of a sunny year. It’s a wine to prise open over time, has serious length, is very genuine, true Cornas, a de la terre wine. Drink 2028 - 2052" drinkrhone
