Rieslingfeier 2013 - with Lauer, Zilliken and more!
1/16/13 -
New York is getting ready to host a first-of-its kind event to celebrate German Riesling, one of the world's most terroir-expressive and long-lived white wines. Rieslingfeier, loosely in the tradition of La Paulée de New York, will take place February 15th and 16th. Growers from six of Germany's most beloved estates will be in town for a number of exciting dinners, seminars and a staggered 'tasting crawl' covering four Manhattan retail shops. We're honored to be participating and will proudly host Florian Lauer and Dorothee Zilliken on Saturday the 16th from 4-6pm for an exploration of the wines of the Saar (open to the public, free of charge). After the tasting they'll be heading uptown to Rouge Tomate for the main event, the "Grand BYOB" dinner with the growers and the largest gathering of Riesling lovers this country has ever seen.
While not officially part of the festivities, we'll be extending the "Saar" theme of the weekend for another tasting on Friday the 15th from 5-7pm. Lars Carlberg will be in town for the events and will visit the store to pour the wines of Hofgut Falkenstein. Come on down to taste or pick the brain of one of today's foremost scholars on Mosel wine. We're hoping to have a special guest as well, someone intimitely familiar with the wines of Erich Weber who might bring along some back vintages. Our fingers are crossed!
Rieslingfeier is not to be missed and we encourage you to attend as many events as you can. See below for current releases from some the attending producers, including Lauer, ZIlliken, Adam, and Schloss Lieser.
