Hardy Wallace (Dirty) says 2016 was a wild year. After several years of drought, some late spring showers gave the vines "a needed double shot of espresso to get them going." Early in the vintage, Hardy reported the fruit flavors were ripe and lively - sooner than expected. "This allowed us to take our time in the vineyards and patiently wait for acids and skins to come into balance."
After tasting the snappy and bright-fruited 'Familiar' Mourvèdre - a mosaic of California's Mourvèdre vineyards - we agreed with Hardy, this vintage is one of the "spiffiest" yet. Another standout is the heady and exotically-perfumed Skinner Stoney Creek Mourvèdre from El Dorado County. Upon opening, we were greeted with polite and pleasant red fruits, but after a long decant, layers of ethereal floral notes, savory spices, and mineral texture emerged along with the dutiful promise of age-worthiness.
However sophisticated, the 2016s maintain that ebullient spirit we love about past vintages, like a family reunion, but a really happy one. We are delighted to share these wines with you and yours. All of the quantities are last of stock and are available for pick-up and delivery.
