Jerome Chezeaux 2022 Vosne-Romanee 1er cru Les Chaumes
3/9/26 -

It is a rare occasion that I am able to highlight a wine from such a specatacular vineyard in Burgundy, let alone be able to offer an additional discount on it. Today we have an incredible bottle of Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Chaumes from Jerome Chezeaux. The Premier cru of Les Chaumes (see map below) is on the southern end of Vosne-Romanée, neighboring 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts and La Tache. The Chezeaux family owns just 0.4 hectare of vines here and make a wine of incredible beauty.

The Chezeaux domaine was formed in 1971 from an estate previously owned by Julien Missery. Bernard Chezeaux sold most of the wine made to negociants until his untimely death in 1993. His son Jerome took over at that time and began to increase the amount of wine bottled at the estate. Since 2019, Jerome's daughter Lyse has joined the estate and is now working side by side with her father.
In the cellar, the grapes are fully de-stemmed, fermented with indigenous yeast, and then aged with modest levels of new oak. The resulting wine is incredibly perfumed with rose and spice alongside notes of cherry and cranberry. The wine has a mineral core with an amazing lift and freshness. After initially tasting the wine, I left some in my glass and checked in on it throughout my day. and it just kept getting better. Around 3 hours after the bottle was opened the mouthfeel was soft and luscious while showcasing bright concentrated fruit and amazing elegance. This is a wine that with a little bit of decanting can drink well now but will continue to drink well for many years to come!
