Highly Allocated Burgundy: Duroché, Colin-Morey, Bachelet, and Boisson
1/19/26 -
There are some extra special wines out there that we often don't get enough of to offer out in emails such as this. But today, I am just trilled to be able to showcase the wines of Domaine Duroché, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Jean-Claude Bachelet, and Boisson. None of them really need much introduction as they are commonly on the lips of Burgundy drinkers in New York and beyond. But for those of you who are ready to explore these incredible Burgundies for the first time, read below for more on what makes each of these domaines so special.
DOMAINE DUROCHÉ
I have been lucky enough to visit with Pierre Duroché and his wife Marianne, as well as meet them in New York and Burgundy over the years and outside of how stunning I believe these wines are, there is a level of humility they both have. They are proud of the wines they create yet have always been so kind to me, and appreciative when I have shared my love for their wines with them. Although Pierre has been working his family vines for almost 20 years now, he still showcases that new generational energy that has brought a following for the Domaine. These wines show respect for the terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin yet showcase finesse and an understated power that has always kept me going back for more. Pierre Duroché is the fifth generation winemaker in Gevrey-Chambertin. In 2005, Pierre took over management at the family domaine and was ready to make some changes when it came to farming. He removed the use of all chemical products and began focusing on the health of the soils. While these adjustments showcase the respect to land and farming, Pierre has chosen to continue the family tradition making wines of elegance in a region often looked to for masculine styles of red Burgundy. The Duroché’s 8.25 hectares of vines showcase every level of Gevrey beginning with Bourgogne Rouge, a village level Gevrey, and then a few lieu-dits Gevreys that Pierre feels deserve their own spotlight outside the village blend. We also have 2 new cuvées from the "Pierre & Marianne Duroché" label. For these wines they are purchasing fruit from Marianne's family or other talented growers.

PIERRE-YVES COLIN-MOREY
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is easily considered one of the top domaines in the Cote de Beaune. After years of enjoying the wines from Pierre-Yves and now his son Mathis (pictured on right above) at home, I was able to visit them on my last trip to Burgundy. Since my visit, my appreciation for these bold, luscious, white Burgundies has only grown. Pierre-Yves Colin along with his wife Caroline Morey established their estate in 2006 after he spent 1994-2005 working as the winemaker for his father's domaine (Domaine Marc Morey). These wines very quickly went from rising-star to some of the most sought after wines of the region and for good reason. There is something here that I can only describe as some of the most perfectly in balance white Burgundies year after year. I tasted these 2023s as barrel samples back in October of 2024 and they were ready to drink then! With 6+ more months in barrel they have only proceeded to get better.

JEAN-CLAUDE BACHELET
Jean-Claude Bachelet has been a family domaine since the early 17th century. Today Brothers Jean-Baptiste and Benoît Bachelet are at the helm and are credited with converting all 10 hectares of the domaine to biodynamic. Even with the additional work in the vineyards, they believe the wines have more precision and sense of terroir. Based in Gamay, a hamlet of Saint-Aubin the domaine has some of the best holdings across Saint-Aubin, Chassagne, and Puligny. The mix of biodynamic farming with a light touch in the cellar leaves these wines full of purity of fruit, complex, and just delicious! Since the brothers have taken over, the wines have slowly begun to get their rightful acclaim, but I imagine that as time goes on, these wines will get more difficult to find.

DOMAINE PIERRE BOISSON
There has been a cult following in the New York wine scene for the many labels from the Boisson family: Boisson-Vadot, Pierre Boisson, and Anne Boisson. Different names aside, today the wines are collaboratively produced and bottled in the family’s cellar in Meursault with Anne and Pierre at the helm with their father Bernard keeping a watchful eye. Similarly, with the move into the younger generation, the style has stayed consistent within the Domaine with racy white wines that are terroir driven, with a light hand when it comes to new wood in the cellar. Today we are excited to have the new release of 2 village Meursaults and an Auxey-Duresses.

I am not the first, nor will I be the last to attempt to explain how fantastic these winemakers each are, and every vintage they produce, but the truly best way to understand these wines is to pop their corks with friends and enjoy.
