French Container New Arrivals - Featuring delicious new wines from Rachel Hubert at Peybonhomme/Grolet, Stunning Maconnais wines from Guillemot Michel, Rhônes from Creve Coeur, and Loire/Macon/Beaujolais wines from Raphaëlle Guyot!
We're excited to offer new arrivals and returning favorites from a few of our favorite estates in France. Of particular note are the new wines from Rachel Hubert (picture above) at Chateau Peybonhomme-les-Tours and Chateau Grolet. For nearly two decades, the wines from the Hubert family have been proudly carried at Chambers Street, offering incredible value and quality in the Bordeaux section. Rachel is fully running the family estate now and has expanded the selection to include a delicious new Pet-Nat Blanc de Noirs of Cabernet Franc called L'Amour du Risque, along with a reboot of an old customer favorite Les Vacances de Monsieur Merlot, a short maceration, light-medium red of Merlot that is fun and unpretentious. She is exploring the possibilities that Bordeaux offers, with red and white blends like Colette (not on offer today sadly), and a still Blanc de Noir of Semillon called Rueben, which we guarantee will stump even your sommelier friends in a blind tasting!
In addition to the new arrivals from Peybonhomme/Grolet, we also have just received a re-up of the fantastic Rhône wines from Pablo Hocht at Domaine Creve-Coeur and the beautiful Vire-Clessé wines from Guillemot-Michel, along with a small allocation of new wines from Raphaëlle Guyot, who branched out to the Loire Valley, Macon and Beaujolais after losing nearly all of the grapes from her plots in the Yonne, west of Burgundy. We have been big fans of her wines since she first started her project many years ago, and are happy to do what we can to ensure she can survive the challenging 2024 vintage and make wine for many years to come!

Domaine de Crève-Coeur
We're very happy to have a new shipment from the affable Pablo Hocht at Domaine de Crève Coeur - these are unknown gems of the Southern Rhone at crazy prices! Based in Seguret, Pablo started his domaine in 2010, organic and Biodynamic from the beginning, while serving as Maitre de Chai at Chateau de Saint-Cosme.
"I created the Domaine in 2010 to live my passion: that of wine, of nature and of respect for terroir. The vines cultivated in organic and Biodynamic agriculture produce authentic and original wines."
We couldn't agree more as the wines are deep, complex, fresh and elegant - wonderful examples of Grenache-based Rhône wines at their best. The 2023 Sablet and Séguret are both blends of Grenache and Mourvedre, which undergo a four-week whole-cluster vinification with wild yeasts followed by 12 months in used barrels. (The Seguret vines are nestled in the foothills of the Dentelles, adjacent to Gigondas.) The lovely 2024 Côtes du Rhône is all Grenache, made in a more forward, supple style and the 2024 Rosé du Coucou is a subtle and delicious direct-press of Grenache and Cinsault. All of these wines will drink wonderfully now but you will be rewarded for 5 to 8 years of cellaring for the Sablet and Seguret!

Guillemot-Michel
Also returning this week are the astonishing Biodynamic white Burgundies of Guillemot-Michel in Viré-Clessé - we think they are equal in quality to village and 1er Cru wines of the Côte-D'or, but happily not equal in price!
Price, however is not the issue here, what matters is that they are incredibly delicious - truly unique and soulful wines, products of two generations of remarkable farming and skillful natural vinifications at the highest level.
Certified Biodynamic in 1991, the estates 6.5 hectares are situated on degraded Jurassic-era limestones with thin clay soils. With relatively high yearly rainfall, the unique soils and very old vines (planted between 1920 and 1989) produce intensely mineral wines with firm acidities.
The vines are planted in high density of 7,000 - 8,000 vines per hectare, and pruned according to the Guyot-Poussard method. The grapes are hand-harvested of course, and undergo a very slow fermentation - the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur naturally in cement vats with wild yeasts. A small amount of volcanic SO2 is burned and added in the form of gas.
"Quintaine," the estates main cuvée, is especially beautiful in 2023. "A wonderful vintage" says winemaker Gautier Roussille, "A wine with tension, depth and great cellaring potential."
2023 "Retour a la Terre" Aged in terracota amphora. A classic great vintage with depth and potential, an amazingly pure wine.
2022 "Charleston" A classic, dense and saline vintage for Charleston. "Excellent" says Neal Martin in Vinous...
2022 "Une Bulle" Finally some "une Bulle" after two frost-damaged vintages! Extra-brut again this year with only 3g residual sugar, juicy!
