Excellence at Tiberio - New wines from Abruzzo
6/15/26 -
Today we have a lovely offer for the wines of Azienda Agricola Tiberio in Abruzzo, Italy. In 2000 Riccardo Tiberio found an old plot of Trebbiano Abruzzese, the more obscure version of the more widely planted Trebbiano Toscana, as well as some old Montepulciano. The quality and depth of their wines stems from the early decision to farm these old plots, while also planting new vines using selection massale through meticulous selection of the best branches. Over the years, they have continued this philosophy by uprooting non-native grapes in favor of more Trebbiano Abruzzese, Pecorino, and Montepulciano.
The sibling duo of Cristiana and Antonio Tiberio took over the project from their father in 2011 with Cristiana in the cellar and Antonio tending the vines. Cristiana has trained with a wide range of some of the best winemakers in the world like Selosse, Egon Muller, and Nicolas Joly in addition to having her degree in chemistry. In the vineyard, biodiversity and sustainable practices come first, allowing Cristiana to have a light hand in the cellar. They maintain 3 hectares of forest, olive trees, and local wild herbs which have all been key to the biodiversity brimming amongst the vines. The resulting wines are deep, cool, and angular- truly some of the best wines coming out of Central Italy!

Today we have three selections that are perfect for everyday drinking along with three special single vineyard releases. If you like wines that are energetic, bright, with fresh fruit and deep mineral character, try the 2025 releases of Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo. These are fermented in stainless steel and show great depth and freshness. I'm hard pressed to find a better pairing for grilled chicken than the Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo. The Pecorino is perfect for fish tacos with lots of lime and try the Trebbiano with Carbonara or grilled vegetables.
The other three bottlings are single vineyards- 2023 Fonte Canale, 2022 Archivio, and 2022 Colle Vota. They are beautiful representations of the old vines and careful farming at Tiberio. Click 'View the Wines' below to read more about each one.
