Domaine Forey Vosne-Romanée in all shapes and sizes
7/20/26 -
It is no secret that we really enjoy the stunning wines of Regis and Quentin Forey here at CSW. I sent out an offer back in November with a huge portion of their lineup, but today I am focusing in on strictly Vosne-Romanée, a village I often don't get to focus on due to the limited quantities and truthfully expensive price tag. Today we have some special pricing, and a fair bit of wine to go around with the hope that many of you will be able to enjoy these fantastic wines.
Regis Forey has been at the helm of his family’s domaine for over thirty years now and has made a reputation for creating soulful, precise Burgundies with incredible depth and concentration. In more recent years, Regis has begun to shift from 228-liter Burgundy barrels to 500-liter demi-muids, reducing the influence of oak on the wines. This has expanded as Regis and Quentin have begun experimenting with alternative aging vessels when aging their Vosne-Romanée. The Menhir bottling is aged in tronconic wood foudres that are shaped similarly to the Menhir standing stones found in Celtic areas of Europe. Jarre is aged in terracotta jars, he believes that vessels such as these counteract the development in aging from today's warmer climate. Additionally, he also promotes a more gentle extraction, has increased the use of whole clusters, and greatly reduced his sulfur regimen. All of this allows for more gentle, aromatic wines especially as vintages become increasingly riper. Today, Regis is working side by side with his son Quentin, who is part of all day-to-day operations and shares the same vision as his father for what they want Domaine Forey wines to be.
Over the past few years we have seen more and more winemakers begin to look outside of the traditional 228-liter barrel for aging their wines. Larger barrels, amphorae, terracotta, ceramic, glass, and stainless steel have all made their way into some of the best cellars across the region. One of the most iconic was when Charles Lachaux completely rid his cellar of oak in favor of sandstone amphoras. At the time this seemed like a crazy move, but after years into this transition, the wines are more sought after then ever before with more producers following in his footsteps. Today's offer allows for the chance to taste the same wine side by side all aged in different vessels for the same amount of time, a rare occasion in any region but especially from some of the best real estate in the entire wine making world.
For years the wines of Domaine Forey have lived somewhat under the radar when it comes to Burgundy producers in the Cote de Nuits. It has often felt like those who knew of the incredible value and quality kept the wines a secret and for that reason the wines have yet to "blow up." I will take this as a win myself, because I still get to enjoy these wines and offer them out to you all. I feel it important to note that across the board in Burgundy there are significantly less quantities for 2024 and it is worth it to stock up on these special wines now while they are at fantastic prices.
Today with the help of our friends at Rosenthal, I am excited to offer special pricing on 750s and magnums, along with just one special 3 liter bottle of 2023 Forey Vosne-Romanée. For anyone with a special birthday in 2033, or a child born in 2023 this is the perfect bottle to snag now and set aside for a 21st birthday. We also have limited quantities of 3-packs that contain 3 bottles of 2023 Forey Vosne-Romanée each aged in a different vessel: terracotta jars, tronconic wood foudres, and the traditional which is aged in a mix of small barrel and demi-muid. This is a rare pack for us to be able to offer and I don't think they will last for long.
