Beaujolais for the Holidays, 2009 - 2025!
11/20/25 -
It's time to Drink More Beaujolais and we begin with the 2025 Beaujolais Nouveau "L'Ancien Vieilles Vignes" from Domaine des Terres Dorées - it's a seriously delicious wine that provides a preview of the excellent 2025 vintage!
Anthony Thévenet apprenticed for 7 years with Georges Descombes and 5 years with Jean Foillard - his goal is to create light, fruit-driven wines that capture the essence of the terroir and offer pure enjoyment. His 2023 Beaujolais-Villages is medium-bodied and bright with lovely berry fruits, from 3 small parcels in Lancié.
2024 was indeed a difficult vintage in the Beaujolais, but those who appreciate a more old-fashioned lighter style of Gamay (think 2014) will be happy, especially with the lovely wines from Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît at Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes. Both the Morgon Javernières "Aux Pierres" and the Morgon Cote de Py are bright and vivacious with gorgeous fruit and will drink well young. And we're happy to offer the last of the superb 2023 Morgon Javernières at a new low price!!
"Daniel Bouland is a great producer of old-fashioned Morgon. From less than 7 hectares of old vines in the Douby, Côte de Py, and Delys lieux-dits of Morgon, plus small parcels in Chiroubles and Côte de Brouilly, he makes wines that can age 20 years, and are comparable to fine Côte de Nuits Burgundies." - Importer Peter Weygandt. We're happy to have re-releases from 2018 - 2022, although some will need a long decant, especially the well-structured 2019s. "Daniel Bouland's bottlings from both Côte de Brouilly and Morgon are easily candidates for at least fifty years of positive evolution in bottle, so there is really no rush to be opening up the wines too early! They are among the greatest wines produced in Beaujolais today." - John Gilman The View from the Cellar.
As we say very frequently, Georges Descombes is one of our favorite producers in Beaujolais - his 2022s and 2023s - both the "regular" cuvées and the Vieilles Vignes are astonishingly delicious! There's only one case left of his superb 2022 Morgon Vieilles Vignes, but the 2023 Morgon and 2022 Brouilly are in good supply.
We have always loved the Fleurie "les Moriers" from Domaine Chignard - one of the most elegant Fleuries, sometimes a bit austere in it's youth, but always beautifully balanced, with pure fruit and good density and length. Although the parcel borders Moulin-a-Vent, "Les Moriers" also shows the floral and elegant side of Fleurie. Cédric Chignard also produces the outstanding Juliénas "Beauvernay" from a south-facing slope of high-density 60 year-old vines on blue volcanic soil. The 2023 is simply delicious - a real joy to drink, with gorgeous, complex fruit, moderate alcohol, great balance and wonderful stony density that foretells excellent mid-term aging.
And of course, Chambers Street is honored to work with Christian and Thibaut Ducroux, who produce some of the world's most vibrant and delicious natural wines from their five hectares of living soils in Thulon, above Regnié-Durette in the Beaujolais. The estate has been practicing organic and Biodynamic farming, with minimal plowing, (i.e. regenerative agriculture) since 1985. Zero added SO2, best consumed on day opened. (Ducroux vineyards are pictured above. Since this photo additional rows of vines have been removed and more fruit trees have been planted. )
