An Evening with Gideon Beinstock (Clos Saron)

2/26/15 -

Gideon Beinstock of Clos Saron is coming to town and we are thrilled to have an entire evening to spend with him! Following decades of experience in wine sales, winemaking, and viticulture for Renaissance (the pioneering winery in California’s Sierra Foothills), Gideon and his wife, Saron, came upon a tiny vineyard not too far from Renaissance in the Oregon House Valley with an unusually cool microclimate and soils that were conducive to growing Pinot Noir. And the Clos Saron Home Vineyard was born.

Ten years later, Clos Saron’s reputation for rigorous organic farming and minimal intervention in the cellar has been firmly established. Production is tiny. The Home Vineyard Pinot Noirs are sought after for their energy, poise, and distinctive mineral expression. Their Syrah and Cinsault based reds and their quirky, delicious white blends are admired for their aromatic complexity and swirl of textures that evolve in surprising and beautiful ways with bottle age. Beinstock says their approach to blending grape varieties is to "focus on the expression of their place of origin, rather than grape varieties."
