2022 Marsannays from Domaine Bart!
Domaine Bart, Marsannay
Since the 2007 vintage, Chambers Street has been offering the delicious Marsannays (and occasionally the Bonnes Mares and Clos de Beze) from the Bart family estate, currently run by Pierre and his uncle Martin. Our visits have always been a fascinating lesson in vineyard sites and we're happy to be offering 2022s from "Les Ouzeloy," "Les Grandes Vignes," "Au Champ Salomon," and "Clos du Roy," plus the Village Marsannay, Bourgogne Cote D'Or and the 2023 Rosé.

The domain was created in 1988 when Martin and his sister Odile inherited part of the Clair-Dau estate, joined by Martin's nephew Pierre. We could not visit this past winter, so we thank Burghound for this interview with Pierre Bart regarding the 2022 vintage: "Other than a minor hailstorm in Fixin, and obviously the big June storm in Gevrey, the season was fairly clement though it was certainly hot and dry and it was enough to slow down the ripening process. As such, we waited until the 8th of September to begin picking, which we were able to do quickly as the fruit was quite clean. Yields were excellent if variable with good potential alcohols that ranged from 12 to 13%. While we didn't use whole clusters per se for the vinifications, we did add back from 20 to 40% of the stems that we had preselected. As to the wines, they have really improved from month-to-month and while I don't know if the word classic exactly describes them, they are certainly more classic than what the trio of 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages produced."
This combination of excellent ripeness with lower alcohol and good freshness makes the wines superb candidates for early drinking and medium-term cellaring, with perhaps only the "Au Champ Salomon" and "Clos du Roy" really needing to be held for five to ten years to drink at their best. With the wines of Domaine Bart becoming more well-known (finally) our small allocation will disappear quickly, so don't delay...
Arrival approximately June 28th, all wines discount 10% on a case or mixed case.
