Amevive 2024 Peripherie
This is a unique snapshot of the original plantings at Ibarra-Young, made as a co-fermented field blend of Marsanne, Syrah and Mourvedre from vines on the outside edge of the vineyard (where the name Peripherie comes from). The grapes are destemmed and fermented together in a gentle infusion style, which adds subtle aromatics while avoiding heavy extraction. It's fascinating to pick out the three components, with the Marsanne adding some floral brightness, hints of dark cherry fruit from the Mourvedre and a puff of smoky plum and spice from the Syrah. It drinks like a light red that can be served with a chill, however there is so much more going on than your average glou-glou chillable red! One of the more compelling wines we've tried in some time and a beautiful measure of place and terroir.
