New Arrivals from Roagna!
New Arrivals from Roagna!
When showcasing a historic producer like Roagna, it’s difficult to find words that haven’t already been said about their wines. One could highlight their continuity in the Langhe since the 1920’s (1978 was their first commercial vintage), massal selection vines, long macerations and long aging, or biodiverse and historic vineyards. Roagna is certainly on the radar of wine lovers for all of these reasons.
Today we are offering the 2020 vintage release of two Barolo, two Barbaresco, one Barbera, and one Langhe Rosso, plus a limited quantity of the 2016 Crichet Paje. (The winery’s first and most historic vineyard in an exceptional vintage!) Since Roagna owns or leases holdings in both Barolo and Barbaresco, you have the chance to taste the king and queen of Nebbiolo side by side. The 2020 vintage is marked by balance, freshness, and approachability. While the 2020's will age, they will not need as much time as 2019, finding elegance and silkier fruit in their youth.
I want to draw attention to their Langhe Rosso. They are blending fruit from Castiglione Falletto, Pira, and Paje together and releasing it as a Langhe Rosso due to the slightly younger age of the vines. The vines are not even that young, averaging around 25 years old! Luckily for us, we get the chance to drink it at a fraction of the price, but not a fraction of the quality.
Everything on today’s list will age, but if you are hoping to uncork one soon, the 2020 Barbaresco Gallina and 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione tend to be approachable younger, as well as the 2020 Langhe Rosso and 2020 Barbera d’Alba. The wines will benefit from a long decant.
Cheers to Roagna's continued success in the Langhe!
