Sandri, Elio (Cascina Disa) 2018 Barolo Perno

Quite a stark contrast with the 2017 vintage, 2018 saw abundant rain in the beginning of the season followed by cool weather. The weather warmed up just enough to allow the vines to ripen completely and produce a lighter style of Barolo that is full of poise and charm. 

Tasted alongside the 2017 Riserva bottling, this is the more aromatic of the two with a delightful bouquet of rose petals, dried menthol, tobacco and a touch of hibiscus. Give this wine a solid decant as it is a little austere at first but opens up to showcase ripe red cherries with an anise lined background. A very pleasant Barolo that keeps enticing you back for another sip.

Drinking well now or hold for up to 10 years.
