Valette, Bernard 2022 Beaujolais "Quatre Saisons"
From the deep south of Beaujolais in the village of Lachassagne, where the soils are clay and limestone as opposed to granite, Bernard Vallette is biodynamically farming 6.5ha of land passed down through his family from his grandparents. The grapes are all hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts using carbonic maceration and comparatively lengthy aging in stainless steel. The resulting wines are charming and immensely drinkable in their youth but also develop nicely with a few years of age. The 2022 "Quatre Saisons" is from Bernard's 7ha biodynamic vineyard at 300m elevation. Vinified with no temperature control, no fining, and a light diatomaceous earth filtration. 6 months of maturation in stainless steel with no added SO2. This was a big hit at a staff tasting last week - just delicious says Eben, with smooth tannins, beautifully ripe and drinking perfectly now, serve quite cool and enjoy!
