Amphores 2024 Saint-Joseph Blanc Altitude 300
From Veronique, Philippe and Remi Grenier at Domaine des Amphores, certified organic and Biodynamic. 80% Roussanne, 20% Marsanne on granite soils in "Le Monteillet" at 300 metres altitude. Fermented and aged in anfora and vat rather than wood. Their 2024 "Altitude 300" is a beautiful white Saint-Joseph made from 80% Roussanne and 20% Marsanne. The lovely aromas show the Roussanne, with hay, stone, pear, almond and lime-flower. The palate is round and balanced, certainly less fat than the 2023, showing stone, apricot, white fruits and dried herbs — really pretty, with bright, saline acidity and white fruits lingering in the finish. This is an outstanding northern Rhone white to drink over the next 5 to 8 years and a superb value! "drink with scallops, trout, foie gras, chicken in cream sauce, blanquette of veal, raclette, Rigotte de Condrieu cheese,” say the Greniers. Lovely wine! David Lillie
