There has been a cult following in the New York wine scene for the many labels from the Boisson family: Boisson-Vadot, Pierre Boisson, and Anne Boisson. Different names aside, today the wines are collaboratively produced and bottled in the family’s cellar in Meursault with Anne and Pierre at the helm with their father Bernard keeping a watchful eye. Similarly, with the move into the younger generation, the style has stayed consistent within the Domaine with racy white wines that are terroir driven, with a light hand when it comes to new wood in the cellar.

What is new however is the 2022 Hautes-Cotes de Beaune Blanc ‘Le Chemin de Pierre’ the first vintage of this STANDOUT white! From the village of Nantoux which is just above Pommard in the Hautes-Cotes. Pierre saw huge potential in this two hectare plot that had never previously been planted, yet contains excellent rocky, limestone soils. Planted in 2016, the 2022 is the first vintage and after tasting this recently I am inclined to call it one of (if not) the best value in white burgundies right now. After harvest, the wines are fermented (both alcoholic and malolactic) in barrel. They are then aged in 1 year old oak barrels, for 15 months on the lees with an additional 4 months after racking. This is a slightly reductive, stony, flinty style of white burgundy that tastes way more expensive than it is!

If you just spent the holidays indulging in special bottles from your cellar, and are missing the excitement from opening them this wine will help get you through the winter! Or, if you have always wondered what the “big deal” was when it comes to Burgundy, try this wine and you will start to see at a baseline how special wines from here can be. There is something here for everyone, and I mean that because if red wine is more your style, we also have Pierre Boisson’s Hautes-Cote de Beaune Rouge on offer today too. A bright, fresh, cheerful red burgundy with a touch of spice.

When we tasted this past week, it was fairly unanimous with the staff that the Chemin de Pierre was the crowd favorite, at just sub $40 it will be tough to find something to compare with. We are bringing in a lot of these wines as we believe this is set to become a new weeknight staple for many of you (and our staff too)!
