Back from Jerez; Let's Talk about it!

4/7/11 -

This Saturday, April 9th, Ryan Looper of T. Edward Wines will be joining me to pour selections from our trip to the region of Jerez. The wines of Jerez de la Frontera, San Lucar de Barrameda, and El Puerto de Santa Maria are, and always will be, amongst the greatest wines in the world, wines that seem to defy trends in taste, wines that play a unique role at the table, wines that spark fascinating discussions about the relationship between method and terroir. We will be speaking about this noble wine’s place in history, the wine’s relevance in our lives today, as well as the different production methods and terminologies associated with what the Moors called “Xeris” and the Spanish call “Jerez.” We will be answering questions such as: What is “Albariza?” What are “Bodegas,” “Soleras,” and “Criaderas?” Who is the “Capataz,” and what is his job? What is a “Butt” and why can't I sit on it? We’ll explain why “Cream” is more than just the name of a Wu-Tang song and, finally, we’ll answer the question “What in God's name is Palo Cortado, anyway?” We’ll address all these questions (including the meaning of life) and more... Don't miss it!  The year of Sherry starts today! (Tasting from 4-7pm Saturday April 9th) - Chris
