Barbier, Christian 2022 Deunido Montsant
"Déu N’hi Do! This is one of the most curious Catalan expressions out there. It is almost exclusively used in Catalonia as a way to emphasize a phrase, emotion or situation. It is almost impossible to translate directly into English, but its literal meaning is something like “God gave it!” and a common exclamation meaning something like “Wow!” or “It’s amazing!” (Selections de la Vina)
100% Garnacha Negra from La Coma in Montsant. The vines grow on chalky soils, and are farmed organically with biodynamic treatments. After harvesting by hand, the juice macerates on the skins for about a week with 10% of the stems in stainless steel, then ferments and rests for 5 months in the same vessels. Bottled without addition of sulfur.
This is a vibrant expression of Montsant Garnacha, showing plenty of calcareous minerality, red fruit, and acid-driven structure. Compared to most expressions from this warm and dry region, Deunido is light on its feet and very friendly to drink in its current youthful mode.
