Stilianou 2020 Great Mother Red

Named after the Great Mother, ancient goddess of the Minoans, this red from Crete is made from it's noblest grape Mandilari. Much akin to Piedmont's Nebiollo, Macedonia's Xinomavro or Provence's Mourvedre, Mandilari is full bodied & tannic with high acid. In order to make a lighter, less stubborn style, the winemaker did a direct press 24 hr flash maceration with a 20 day fermentation and a further 18 months aging all in stainless steel. Unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur at bottling, the wine skews more medium bodied, herbaceous with juicy berries and salted nuts. Drink with a slight chill for all your Indian Summer picnics!
