Pinon 1993 Vouvray Moelleux 750ml - Pre-arrival (Arrives Mid-September)

The Pinon's make superb moelleux wines and though 1993 is not known as a great year for sweet wines, there is great acidity here to balance the wonderful sweetness - it's like the great 1996 in this regard. Here is Chris Kissack with an excellent and accurate review: "rich golden hue in the glass. An impressive nose here for a vintage which has not enjoyed the same fame as 1990 or 1989, but which nevertheless did produce a slew of excellent moelleux cuvées in this appellation. This is certainly complex, with an array of sweet, floral, fresh and bitter characteristic all presented at once. There are rich seams of buttered toast, macadamia nuts, praline and sultanas, spiced with a bitter note of Seville oranges. The palate is no less impressive, rich and textural, with a fine-grained weight, a rather gentle sweetness, and an overarching, bitter, acid-driven structure, which serves to keep the wine light and lovely across the midpalate and finish. It is long, very mellow and harmonious in terms of its texture and composition, but with a lovely counterbalance of pithy grip. A long and charming style."
