Hogl 2022 Wachau J&G Riesling Federspiel

Hailing from high up in the western Wachau side valley off of the town of Spitz and it's steep rocky ancient terraces. As per Josef Hogl, Spitz's best known winegrower : " The Spitzer Graben is different from the rest of the Wachau. Not too far away from the Danube, but still different and forgotten. It is the coolest terroir in the noble district with very little wind: the easterly breezes don't make it into the Graben, and the frequently mentioned mountain-winds from Jauerling and the Waldviertel are clearly noticeable only in summer. The sun warms this small valley quite readily, but does so without drying things out. The grapes require a lot of time to ripen, which makes for particular and finely-developed aromatics." The J&G is sourced from multiple parcels in the Spitzer Graben and elsewhere in the Wachau to present a lively, light bodied yet intense Riesling with vibrant fruit, crisp minerality and zippy acidity.
