Clos des Grillons 2022 'Calcaires'
When describing the wines of Nicolas Renaud everyone references Eric Pfifferling of Domaine L'Anglore as Eric's wines were the inspiration for the Clos des Grillons, along with Gramenon and others, when Nicolas quit teaching history in 2005 and began his career in wine. While working with Jean-Paul Daumen at Vieille Julienne, Nicolas rented his first parcel of vines in 2006, really starting the Clos des Grillons in 2008. Since then he has put together about 15 hectares of vines in the area of Rochefort-du-Gard, near Tavel, mostly of low-yielding old vines on the region's fascinating terroirs. Winemaking here is very much in the style of L'Anglore, producing relatively light-bodied beautifully frangrant wines.
