Clos des Papes 2016 CDP Rouge Magnum
"A wine for the ages" Here is drinkrhone's rare 6-star review of the monumental Clos des Papes 2016 Rouge - a wine you want to have in a magnum... " dark robe, very full red. There’s a full couch of red fruits, warm stones, raspberry and cooked plum, in a really thorough bouquet, a note of baking, some rose hip. It’s under the influence of its bottling in May this year. This is rich! Wow! What a generous, full to the brim wine, all in a smooth, sturdy flow, stream of delivery. It’s enormously rich, with enough mineral along the second half to keep it moving. Thick juice reigns here; it’s sturdy and full all through, requires much time. I compare it to the 1990 – Vincent is 200% in agreement, with 2016 perhaps ahead – “16 has great freshness, its pH lower than 1990’s. It will really close down. Above all, you had to not chase extraction in 2016,” Vincent Avril. This is mighty wine for the ages." Wait ten years then enjoy until 2050.
