The Domaine de Roally produces one of the finest wines in the Maconnais, from late-harested old vines, frequently taking one to two years to finish fermenting. There is frequently some residual sugar, as was the custom in the region, and the wine ages beautifully. I remember a day in the late 90s sipping an extraordinary 1989 with proprietor Henri Goyard and Joe Dressner. (Joe loved the wine so much that he wanted to buy the estate when Goyard retired) Fortunately the domain was purchased by Jean Thevenet of Domaine Bongran, whose son Gautier has continued to make beautiful wines in a similar style. Tasted at the estate, the 2022 was totally dry with vibrant acidity and steely mineral, yellow apple and saline flavors, complex and very long -  a great vintage for this unique wine, delicious now and worthy of 10 years in the cellar!
