Danjou Banessy 2022 Coste Cotes Catalanes Blanc

Coste is a lovely white from Danjou-Banessy in the Cotes Catalanes region of the Roussillon. All Macabeu from clay and limestone soils with galets roulés (rounded river rocks), the same galets one finds in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Whole clusters are employed, with gentle pressing, and aging is for 12 months in used barrels and foudres. The wine, though true to the subtlety of Macabeu (less aromatic, more a transmitter of soil/bedrock character), is also uniquely "Burgundian" for a Roussillon white, reminded us a bit of a Chardonnay from around Beaune. With time open, we're rewarded with more layers and complexity. Day two may be its finest moment! Enjoy with poultry, or root veggies, and any Fall harvest meal.  -EL
