Lafouge, Jean et Gilles 2022 Pommard 1er Cru "Les Chanlins"
"Chanlins is one of the most inherently elegant terroirs in Pommards, and the style of the vineyard dovetails with the Lafouge style of winemaking" writes John Gilman. This premier cru borders Volnay and expresses the prettier side of Pommard. A continuation of Volnay Pitures (formerly known as Volnay Chanlins until 2006), the vineyard is steep with more limestone and pebbles rather than clay, producing wines which are typically more generous than backwards. "A slightly riper yet again cool, airy and elegant nose is comprised by notes of mostly dark berry liqueur and floral wisps, especially violet. The medium weight flavors aren't quite as dense [as the Auxey 1er Crus] but they're finer and with even more apparent minerality that emerges on the detailed, dusty, youthfully austere and chalky finish. Patience recommended." Burghound #94
