Girard 2022 Sancerre La Garenne
Upon visiting Fernand Girard back in the early 90s we were happy to find someone who harvested by hand and fermented with wild yeasts - a rarity in Sancerre at the time and still sadly in the minority today. 30 years later we are still happy to feature the Sancerre produced by the Girard family, coming from across their 14 hectares of vines, which are spread over slopes in five communes including Verdigny and Saint Satur and which include three distinct terroirs: gravel soils (caillottes), flint (silex) and heavy clay (grosses terres). . The 2022 shows a bright pale gold color with aromas or pear and quince with hints of exotic fruit and lime-flower, a bit riper than the 2021. The palate is a nicely balanced blend of mineral flavors with citrus and white fruits, with good density, ripe, supple fruit and firm acidity. This is a classic Sancerre in a more mineral style that will accompany a wide variety of seafoods, chicken dishes and white meats, a versatile and delicious wine!
