Pear Ciders are Back, Plus New Arrivals (and Sale Prices) from Around the World!
11/02/2024
We're ecstatic to have the elegant, complex and amazingly delicious Poirés and Cidre from Jérome Forget back in the store - with the added attraction of his superb Apéritif de Poire "Pyrus!" La Ferme de L'Yonnière is just south of Domfront in Brittany, east of Mont Saint-Michel and has about 15 hectares of pasture, apple trees and ancient high-branched pear trees. This tiny region of tall old trees is producing pear ciders that are truly unique in the world and that are sensationally delicious! They have the qualities of complex, refreshing sparkling wines and are great food pairings with a wide variety of cuisines, especially shellfish, seafood and cheeses. Representing only about 1% of Normandy's cider production, Poiré Domfront - and particularly those of Jérome Forget - belong in your fridge and on your table on a regular basis! (check out our last article here for the whole story!)
Our next stop is in Burgundy for Les Parcellaires de Saulx, a micro-negociant founded in 2017. At the healm is cellar master Isabelle Laurend who sources grapes strictly from farmers who work organically or biodynamically. Every single wine is made from a single parcel, and in the cellar there is no new oak used. Most cuvées only produce a single barrel of wine.
And the new vintage of Claudie Jobard's beautiful Rully "En Villerange" is a sensational white Burgundy bargain!
Just to the south in Morgon we find the Beaujolais Best Buy of the Year - the superb 2022 Desvignes Morgon Chateau Gaillard, which for some unknown reason is available at a crazy price - take advantage, we have about 5 cases!
And speaking of Best Buys, the very beautiful Bernard and Matthieu Baudry 2023 Chinon "Les Granges" is also available at a lower price!? "Fine grained and absolutely joyous. Drink now" says the Wine Doctor. And of course the Le Telquel "poil dur" from Pierre-Olivier Bonhomme is wagging its tail again in 2023. This year, our favorite dog wine is a blend of mostly Gamay with a dash of Pinot Noir, and it is super refreshing and delicious!!
Finishing our tour de France is a superb group of affordable, organic and Biodynamic Bordeaux for your seasonal dining pleasure...
Our next stop is the Iberian Peninsula, for some fascinating organic and natural wines, but not aboard Saramago's "Stone Raft!"
And although we seem to have missed the Western Hemisphere, today's tour takes us to Italy, Crete, Hungary, Austria and Germany... enjoy the ride!
