Dine With Michael Dashe: In-Store Tasting and Dinner
5/13/15 -
(Who is the monkey riding that giant fish? Come ask Mike the meaning behind his cryptic label.)
We are long time admirers of Michael Dashe. He’s a sweet tempered winemaker whose excitement about fermentation and all things wine is incredibly infectious. Michael and his wife/co-winemaker Anne created Dashe Cellars in 1996 as a project to focus on northern California’s steep, cool climate vineyards. Michael has worked in some of the world’s most technologically advanced cellars (he’s spent time at Cloudy Bay in New Zealand, Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux, and at Ridge in California,) but the wines made under his label are a testament to Lo Fi winemaking: organic or sustainable vineyards, native yeast fermentations, and judicious use of oak.
Dashe’s wines match his personality. They are a refreshing take on grapes such as Zinfandel or Grenache that carry a reputation of being overly alcoholic or obtusely fruited. Michael and Anne are almost always the first to harvest the vineyards that they work in giving fruit with more acid and less sugar than their neighbors. We are pleased to offer an evening with Michael and his fantastic wines. First, there will be a tasting at the store, and then at 7:00PM a small group will share a table and seven wines with him and enjoy a four-course meal prepared by the talented Chef Duca at Racines New York, 94 Chambers Street. Please don’t miss this great opportunity! John Rankin
