An Evening with John Locke and Alex Krause of Birichino - at Blue Ribbon Bakery
5/5/16 -
We are thrilled to welcome the talented team behind Birichino Wines, John Locke and Alex Krause, for a special feast at Blue Ribbon Bakery on Wednesday, May 25th, at 7:30pm.
Locke and Krause met in the '90s at Bonny Doon, Randall Graham's trail-blazing Santa Cruz winery (and incubator for inventive wine professionals), where they honed their skills on all sides of the wine business - from winemaking to sales and public relations - before establishing Birichino in 2008.
Although wide-ranging with respect to grape varieties and regions, there is a common thread that runs through Birichino's wines: they are bright and balanced, with depth and focus, yet always fun to drink. The winemakers display similar charms - affable, intelligent, and literary, with exacting standards and clear visions for their wines (not to mention extremely entertaining). Their first wine was an intense and fascinating Malvasia Bianca, the current vintage of which we offer today, along with the 2014 Saint Georges Pinot Noir, one of the greatest values in California Pinot, and the 2013 Vieilles Vignes Grenache, a stirring, elemental expression of the grape from the Besson vineyard, planted in 1910 on its own roots.
We love collaborating with Blue Ribbon Bakery for wine dinners. Chef Matt Deliso and Wine Director Sam Ehrlich never fail to conceive of nourishing, seasonal, pairings that exalt the wines and ensure that the entire lineup will shine. This is a big one! In addition to the 3 wines offered today, dinner will include the following: 2015 Vin Gris, 2014 Petulant Sparkling Malvasia, 2014 Bechtold Cinsault, 2013 Saint Georges Zinfandel, 2013 Lilo Pinot Noir, and a sneak preview of their 2014 Antle Vineyard Pinot Noir. We hope to see you there! Cheers, Ariana Rolich
